Retro Watchdog

Watchdog Nation,

The purpose of this message is to provide notice of a stakeholder input opportunity regarding our Return to Learning/Continuity of Instruction Plan. The Beresford School District has been in the "normal" learning mode (e.g., face-to-face) during the 2021-2022 school year and plans to operate in the "normal" learning mode during the 2022-2023 school year and beyond. The Beresford School District will seek additional input regarding our plan as per state/federal requirements every six months.

Stakeholder Input Opportunity:
On Monday, June 13, 2022, the Beresford School District will seek additional public input regarding our Return to Learning Plan/Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan. Stakeholders may provide additional community input by attending our June 13, 2022, school board meeting and sharing their thoughts during our community input session at 6:30 p.m. The board meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. in the Beresford Middle School/Beresford High School library. In addition, stakeholders may offer input regarding our plan by completing the following online form: https://forms.gle/y8JT5ampo5Ls39Jf6. What updates were made to the Return to Learning Plan/Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan?
We updated the Beresford School District's Return to Learning Plan/Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan to reflect current conditions and meet baseline federal requirements. The most significant changes pertain to page five regarding close contacts, isolation, and quarantine practices. We noted that close contacts, isolation timeframes, and quarantine practices would need to be directed by the South Dakota Department of Health (SD DOH). We also added an infographic showcasing how the Beresford School District processes positive cases. In addition, in the public input section, one will find two new links (e.g., one for an ongoing survey and one for a summary of survey responses). We are providing these links to allow for ongoing feedback from our stakeholders.

How many cases did we experience during the 2021-2022 school year?
During the 2021-2022 school year, we had 90 reported cases. During the first semester, we had 43 reported cases. During the second semester, we had 50 reported cases. Reported cases included students and staff across the Beresford School District.

What about the ARP ESSER Spending Plan?
Initially, we needed to seek input regarding our Return to Learning Plan/Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan and our ARP ESSER Spending Plan. However, during the fall, the South Dakota Department of Education has waived the ARP ESSER Spending Plan public input requirement. Within our approved ARP ESSER spending plan, we allocated dollars for the following: Float Nurse, SEL Training, Tutoring, Counselor, Reading Interventionist/Instructor, ELL Teacher & Tutor, NWEA Assessments, Exact Path Programming, and a carpet extractor/cleaner. We will amend our ARP ESSER budget during the summer of 2022 to address expenditure shortfalls in the float nurse, SEL training, and tutoring categories.

Where can I find the first reading, second reading and adoption, and updated plan(s)?
You can find the revision history of our work by going to: https://www.beresford.k12.sd.us/page/arp-esser.

Respectfully,

Dr. Dustin Degen
