The Beresford School District will be offering Driver Education to students who are within 6 months of their 14th birthday. Therefore, any students born on or before November 23, 2008, for session one and November 30, 2008, for session two will be eligible for Driver Education this summer at Beresford High School.

The cost for enrollment in Driver Education at Beresford High School is $250. Mr. Carda will teach both the classroom portion and behind-the-wheel instruction during sessions one and two.

The schedule for Driver Education is as follows:

  1.  Students are required to complete 30 hours of classroom instruction. The 30 hours are mandated by the state so attendance is required for all five days during session one or session two. Driver Education class will meet on the following days and times at the high school in Mr. Carda’s classroom #208. Please note the dates and times for each session (e.g., a student’s DRED experience includes session one or session two for 30 hours and the 18 hours of time in the car).
  2. Students will be in the car for approximately 18 hours, with at least 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. Driving time will be scheduled while students are in the classroom. When scheduling the driving portion, Mr. Carda will do his best to schedule around summer camps and family vacations.
    1. Most insurance companies will offer a discount if a student completes and passes (60%) both the classroom and driving portions of Driver Education. Students who score an 80% or higher on their classroom portion will be exempt from taking the South Dakota Department of Motor Vehicles written exam. Students who score an 80% or higher on their driving portion will be exempt from taking the South Dakota Department of Motor Vehicles driving exam. If a student does not pass the classroom portion, he/she will be ineligible for the driving portion.
  3. In order to reserve a spot for your child in the Summer Driver Education program, a $100 non- refundable deposit is required. Please have your son/daughter return the attached form and a $100 non-refundable deposit to the office by Friday, April 1, 2022. The remaining balance of $150 must be paid on or before the first day of class on Monday, May 23, 2022, or Tuesday, May 31, 2022. Both checks should be written to Beresford Schools.
