What will be going on at the South Campus?
The Beresford School District accepted a low bid of $6,514,740 with an add alternate bid of $43,603 from Puetz Construction regarding the South Campus addition during the November 10, 2025, school board meeting. The South Campus addition will include the following project components: a secure academic entrance, an activity and event lobby, a new concessions area, new lobby restrooms, a kitchen remodel (including a walk-in cooler and freezer, dry storage), an auxiliary gymnasium (with two high school cross courts), and office space remodels.
To date, we have achieved the following project milestones: secured financing via Capital Outlay Certificates, obtained stakeholder input via focus groups meeting with Architecture Incorporated (AI), developed renderings and construction plans, and completed soil borings.
A majority of the work will take place from March 2026 through November 2026. Work will start in the Multi-Purpose Room to begin renovations so the new activity entrance, concession stands, and restrooms are ready for the start of school in 2026.
How are you able to afford this project?
The Beresford School District’s Capital Outlay Certificate debt payments for our HVAC improvements end during the 2024-2025 school year (e.g., a project from 15 years ago). Our last Capital Outlay Certificate debt payment for our bus barn project ends during the 2025-2026 school year (e.g., a project from three years ago). Combined, the two payments were roughly $510,000 a year. The District can live well within its means with a similarly sized Capital Outlay Certificate debt payment for the next 20 years. To solidify our future plans, we have received updated information regarding HVAC units, roof replacements, parking lot updates, restroom remodels, track updates, and other related projects. In short, we can continue to improve existing infrastructure while adding to our facilities in a manner that does not increase a patron’s taxes via an issued bond.
The BSD BOE has saved roughly $2,000,000 for future projects via ARP ESSER investments, items coming below budget, and purposeful spending. With a $525,000 debt payment for the next 20 years, the district will have additional dollars available to address upcoming projects, yearly needs, and more.
