Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Students and Parents,

On behalf of our District, we would like to thank you for your understanding as we are all learning more about the coronavirus (COVID-19) and its impact on our schools, community, state, nation, and world.  The health and safety of our students, staff, and families remains a top priority.

Governor Noem announced on March 17 that all schools in South Dakota are to be closed for one more week, March 23-27.  As a result, there will be NO SCHOOL in the Beresford School District during the week of March 23-27.  This step is being taken in order to stay ahead of the spread of the coronavirus.

Our District’s teachers and administrators have been working on alternative, flexible, and online learning opportunities for our students.  We are concerned about learner regression, as well as learner progression.

We are asking our students, teachers, and parents to exhibit flexible thinking and remain open to continuous learning during this time.  We continue to learn more each day as we are in these unprecedented times.

On March 19, Mr. James will email a letter to all of our elementary parents with the learning plans for grades JK-5.  Our Elementary School will have learning bags for each of our students in grades JK-5.  Grades 2-5 bags will include an iPad computer.  Learning bags will be distributed to one parent outside of the elementary school commons on Monday, March 23 from 2:00-6:00 p.m.  We would ask the parent to please pull up to the front of the elementary commons and a staff member will greet you and get your child’s learning bag.  Please refer to Mr. James’ letter for more information.

On the afternoon of March 18, Dr. Degen mailed a letter to all of our middle school and high school parents with the learning plans, email user name and password, for students in grades 6-12.  We would ask our 6-12 students to read their school emails at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, March 23 and continue to read their emails throughout our school closure.

We would ask our students, staff, and parents to maintain ongoing communication.  While we do not have all of the answers for how long the closure might be, we understand that there will be questions.  Please feel free to reach out to our teachers and/or administrators at any time.  Thank you.

Brian Field, Superintendent

Beresford School District
