Beresford/Alcester-Hudson Wrestling—2017 State “B” Champions!!
Kellyn March, Dakota Galt, Ty Haneke, & Nick Casperson Win State Titles
Congratulations to the Beresford/Alcester-Hudson (BAH) Wrestling Team on winning the State “B” Wrestling Tourney Championship held in Sioux Falls at the Premier Center on February 24-25. Out of their ten state qualifiers, BAH had six state medalists and four state champions.
Beresford/Alcester-Hudson placed first with 150 points, followed by runner-up Canton with 134, Philip Area third with 98, Winner Area fourth with 88, Parkston fifth with 80, Bon Homme-Scotland sixth with 79, Mt. Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney seventh with 73, and Mobridge-Pollock eighth with 72.
Senior Dakota Galt placed 1st in the 145 pound weight class. This is Dakota’s 4th consecutive state title. Dakota is one of only ten wrestlers in the state of South Dakota to win four consecutive state titles. He is the only wrestler in the history of Beresford High School with four state titles. Dakota capped off his senior season with a perfect record of 31-0. At the State Meet, Dakota also received the John W. Koneche Award.
Senior Ty Haneke placed 1st in the 170 pound weight class. Ty is a two-time state medalist and earned his first state title. Ty finished his senior season with a record of 30-3.
Junior Nick Casperson placed 1st in the 182 pound weight class. This is Nick’s 5th consecutive state medalist honor and his first state title. No wrestler in the history of Beresford High School has ever had five consecutive state medalist honors. Nick finished his junior season with a perfect record of 51-0. At the State Meet, Nick also received the Dale Westberg “Most Falls” Award.
Freshman Kellyn March placed 1st in the 106 pound weight class. This is Kellyn’s first state title. Kellyn finished his freshman season with a record of 54-1.
Senior Trent Rus placed 3rd in the 285 pound weight class. This is Trent’s first state medalist honor. Trent completed his senior season with a record of 42-6.
Senior Kolton Kribell placed 5th in the 132 pound weight class. Kolton is a three-time state qualifier and this is Kolton’s first state medalist honor. Kolton capped off his senior season with a record of 46-15.
Other state qualifiers included senior Kaleb Peterson, junior Hunter Borah, sophomore Trevor Stene, and freshman Payton Borah.
The BAH Wrestling Team is coached by Head Coach Tyler Sorenson, Assistant Coaches Skyler Eriksen and Ken Bonte, and Volunteer Coaches Tim Farley, Ted Lyle, Phil Serck, and Tim Rhead.
